The Packers promoted Tom Clements to Offensive coordinator;
Clements was quarterbacks coach for six seasons for the Packers. The move is
just down the hall to the office vacated by Joe Philbin, who was hired by the
Miami Dolphins two weeks ago as Head coach. “Clements said “I’ve been a
coordinator before, only for a few years. I’ve always wanted to get back to
doing that and thankful that it’s here in Green Bay. I think it’s a great
opportunity. We have a young team. We’ve had success over the past couple of
years. We still have a lot of room to grow and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
The move was widely expected by the Packers, which has seen
more than their share; of coaching staff accept positions outside the
organization. I wrote a previous article here, about coaching moves.
Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said, “Tom Clements has
been a big part of the Offense success, and an obvious decision for the
promotion to Offensive Coordinator.”
In other news, the Brewers came to agreement with
Pitcher Shaun Marcum just minutes ahead of the arbitration hearing. The reported
agreement for $7.725 million was the half-way point of the 8.7 million Marcum
requested and the 6.7 the Brewers submitted over a month ago.
The Brewers Jose Veras is the only arbitration eligible
player unsigned. Players also signed by the Brewers are infielders Eric Farris,
Matt Gamel, Taylor Green, and Zelous Wheeler, outfielder Logan Shafer, and right
hand pitcher Santo Manzanillo.
No news yet on Ryan Braun’s appeal, maybe this next
week. With 15 days to the Pitchers and Catchers report for training, the Brew Crew
has their players signed, and ready to Rock & Roll. I’m ready! How about
you? Till next time.
